Slip Sliding Around

**You're not going to give a damn about this post if you don't live in MetroWest and if you don't care about highway maintenance. You've been warned.**

Well, it took until January 20th, but finally, it snowed. And today was the first time in quite a long time that I drove around in the snow (5 years or so) while it was snowing.

I drove my Gramma to Wellesley before I learned how to put the car into four-wheel drive. We were slip sliding all around downtown Wellesley and I was pissed off that the station wagon behind me seemed content to ramrod it's way down 135. I was driving here!! Fed up with being outshined by a 1985 Chevy station wagon, when I got home and read the manual and learned how to put the car into four-wheel drive. (It was pretty easy.)

My confidence was in spades, so the SJC and I went to DSW (it was a shoe emergency) and then to John Harvard's in Framingham for a late lunch. We owned the roads with the four-wheel drive. I think maybe it helped that Framingham nailed it in terms of snow removal and highway maintenance. Well played, Framingham.

You know, I expected better from you, Wellesley. I pegged you for a town that installed heaters under the pavement to keep the road conditions clear and dry in the event of a snow fall. I figured you also hired people to hand out tropical drinks (sans alcohol) to passer-throughs as a 'Welcome to Wellesley, thanks for driving here in these conditions' during the winter. But you don't. You didn't even plow, Wellesley. And don't give me the 'it was too soon' crap. There was a good 4 inches that needed to be cleared and you were like, 'But I've got all this reading to do...'

And Wayland? Fail.

Natick? B+ for effort. You did your best, which, let's face it, is just above status quo because you've been pumping a lot of money into the new high school. You'll get it next time.

Framingham, a round of applause for you. Not only were the roads free and clear, but I saw your plows out in full force on the roads helping ensure people can actually get out in the event of a shoe emergency. You're very good.

Let's see who one-ups the other during the next snow fall.

PS In case you were wondering, I'm basing this review entirely on routes 27, 135, and 30.
